Elarscan A1

Overview

ElarScan A1 is a planetary scanner for fast and convenient color, grayscale and black-and-white digitization of books, magazines, catalogs, newspapers, drawings, paintings and other documents up to A1+ format. The contactless method of digitization eliminates the mechanical impact on the originals providing their safety.

The main features of ElarScan A1 are the ability to scan large-format originals up to the A1 format and more, as well as the presence of a 4-segment lighting system that can provide uniform illumination, as well as transmitting the texture and artistic features of the originals.

The scanner is equipped with a professional 50MP CMOS RGB camera, which allows for high-quality digitization with the ability to autofocus and automatically adjust to originals of various thicknesses and textures. It is possible to focus on objects up to A3 format and access to the scan system control functions in the embedded software — SDI (software for document imaging).

ElarScan A1 is equipped with V-shaped book cradle, with individually adjusted angle of inclination of the placeholders and additional recess for the spine. The cradle can open at 90, 120 and 180 degrees and is designed to scan originals up to 24 cm thick and weighing up to 20 kg. Separate lifting of the plates allows scanning the books and bound documents lifting the right and left pages separately. All the main elements of the book cradle design are made of metal and have high resource of work at the maximum load.

For gentle scanning of bound documents with a thick spine, the scanner can be upgraded to the ElarScan A1-600KS version - a floor-mounted version with an automated deep book cradle and a flat hinged glass. Also, optionally the scanner can be equipped with a flat tabletop for scanning originals in A0 format.

The scanner operation is extremely simple, convenient and does not require special skills from the user, allowing fast and efficient scanning, processing and transferring any amount of data. User only needs to place the document on the cradle (face up) and start scanning in any of the convenient ways: using the embedded control software, using scan start buttons on the housing or optional footswitch.

ElarScan A1 is a fully autonomous device with feature-rich embedded software for mass scanning and subsequent processing of electronic images. Electronic images are saved directly to the scanner memory, an external USB drive, or immediately to the network (to an employee’s personal station, server or cloud storage).

One of the most important advantages of ElarScan A1 is its price: the scanner is one of the most inexpensive A1 + planetary scanners on the market with no consumables that should be changed during operation. Therefore, the scanner is extremely cost-effective with high degree of reliability during intensive operation, and a set of functional features, technical and operational characteristics and software capabilities in the basic configuration that put it several levels higher than its closest competitors, making it a truly universal and professional digitization tool with a shooting range from A3 to A0 format.

Camera with high resolution CMOS RGB sensor

ElarScan A1 is a standalone scanning device that can operate without connection to a workstation. The scanner can save the received images to external USB drives or to network folders due to the built-in USB 2.0 (3.0) ports and the Gigabit Ethernet network interface.

ElarScan А1 has a camera with high resolution CMOS RGB sensor with high depth of definition and a macro module, which allows digitization of individual areas of the originals with high optic resolution without software interpolation. The scanned original is displayed in real time on a FHD widescreen monitor. The scanner is equipped with a manual drive for adjusting the height of the camera suspension on the rack. To ensure accurate focusing of the optical system on non-contrast originals, the scanner has a built-in laser module for focus area illumination.

Adjustable repro-type lighters

The scanner has a 4-segment adaptive LED repro type illumination system that does not have harmful ultraviolet and infrared effects on the originals and ensures even distribution of light on the surface of the original. The ElarScan A1 lighting system consists of four LED lamps with independent adjustment of the intensity of each lamp and the direction of the light, which allows achieving almost complete elimination of ambient light, glare and shadows, as well as conveying the texture of art objects. The illumination system is activated during scanning, but it can be set to a constant mode. The illumination system supports the “anti-glare” mode that helps to automatically eliminate glares on documents with surfaces of high degree light reflection.

Cradle

ElarScan A1 has a V-shaped book cradle with various modes and opening angles of placeholders. This ensures that the scanner can digitize any types of originals from a flat document to extremely valuable and shabby books up to 24 cm thick and weighing up to 20 kg, A1+ format, including those with incomplete or partial disclosure. The cradle has opening angles 180, 120 and 90 degrees, at the same time the halves may be raised separately and moved together and apart; when the cradle is apart there is a recess under the book spine, which eliminates the risk of damage.

Embedded Software

The high quality, high color accuracy and absence of geometrical distortions of electronic images when scanning on ElarScan A1 results from two main factors: modern optical system and rich embedded software processing capabilities.

The embedded software — SDI (software for document imaging) is a complete set of tools that control all stages of digitization: scanning, image processing, quality control and indexing of images.

Additional modules and accessories

Additional accessories for the scanner include an extension pack for the scanner worktop for scanning flat originals to A0 format (1189x841 mm) and dust-proof covers.
